 Pretty, slim between the legs, but a bit messy! July 28, 2010

I have several of these and have 3 inserts for each shell.
What I love about this diaper:
1. Pretty! There are lots of bright, attractive colors and patterns. We have "boy" and "girl" patterns. I love them all!
2. Non-irritating velcro. The tabs are not scratchy and won't irritate baby's skin. They're almost smooth to the touch!
3. Perfect laundry tabs. They fold right over on themselves!
4. Overlapping tabs. If you have a skinny baby, the tabs will fasten on top of each other for a snug fit.
5. Elastic in the liner. There is elastic around the legs to help hug the liner to your baby.
6. Snap-in liners. No more bunching up! These liners snap right in to the shell.
7. Slim in the middle. Cloth diapers are bulkier than disposables. Period. When our baby wears these, I can tell by the way she is walking. They are slimmer than the other AIO (all in one)'s we have tried and I really like that!
What I would change:
1. We have LOTS of "leakage" from the liner to the shell. The elastic helps, but if the baby poops, chances are we are going to have to rinse and change the shell. We don't often make it through a day without going through at least 4 shells. With other AIO systems, we can make it through a day with 2 shells.
2. Taller rise. Our baby is short and chunky. At 15 months old, she is totally unsnapped, so the rise will not go any higher for her. She may outgrow these before any of our other cloth diapers. These were the first we had to go up in size every time she grew, also.
3. Wing droop. With the velcro closures, there is nothing to hold the wings up - the part that is tucker under and around your baby's belly. With the snaps, this is addressed, but the velcro leaves some hanging wings on skinny babies. Our chunky baby doesn't have much of an issue with it, but it could be troublesome if your baby isn't full-figured. :-)
Overall, I really like these. Very functional, but you might need a few shells more than other AIO systems. :-)

I like the idea of this diaper, I really do. The shells are fun colors, it's adjustable, no insert or pad to stuff in a pocket. But compared to the Fuzzi Bunz, Flip, and Smartipants diapers, it does not compare. It's just that they seem to leak every time I put them on my 19 month old twin girls. It's gotten to the point that I avoid them until there aren't any more clean diapers left. And then I groan when I have to use the Grobaby diapers. Maybe it's the organic cotton soaker as compared with the microfiber I usually use.
If I were to buy diapers all over again, I'd avoid these and go for the Smartipants. They don't leak and and even though they're pocket diapers and have to be stuffed after washing, you don't have to remove the insert before washing because the pocket is open at both ends.

I regularly use these diapers. They are my husband's favorite diapers, so we've purchased more. We also use Bum Genius 3.0 as a one size cover with prefolds snappied inside.
What sets these diapers apart from others is the material and construction. I absolutely love the Aplix. It is nice to touch and not scratchy. I also like the elastic on the legs and back. It does a very good job of containing leaks without binding my baby's chubby legs. The Bum Genius tend to leave marks. The cover colors selection is limited, but I like the really saturated colors. I'm not a pastel kind of person. My least favorite part of the construction is the soaker pad. I find that this pad tends to leak more than if you just placed a prefold inside and they cost a lot more than a prefold. I only have to change the Bum Genius "cover" if my son has a particularly large *ahem* but the Gro Baby covers need to be changed regularly. Also, the doubler which is sewn on seems pointless and adds a lot of bulk and rough edges. However, they still work well enough and I use them regularly.
I think right now this system is as close to ideal for a one size diapering system that we have. If they streamlined and improved the snap in soaker pad, I wouldn't use any other diaper.

These shells are wonderful. They fit perfectly, move with the baby and are easy to clean. We have 5 of them and they work like a charm. I would recommend them to anyone, they are great for the baby, the enviornment and our pocket book.

PRIOR to use, you must wash and dry the diaper pads & liners (a.k.a. soakers & boosters) AT LEAST five times before you dare use them (the old label implied that washing once should suffice). In fact, the GroVia customer service rep I spoke to said they need to be washed and dried about TEN times "before they reach maximum absorbency". If you only wash 'em five times, trust me, you will have leaks. Also note that GroVia/GroBaby shells cannot go in the dryer or else the velcro tabs will warp and lose their adhesiveness - a warning not printed on the label but good to know!
At 15 months, my daughter still wears the GroBaby shells (shorter in the back than the GroVia shells) but these diapers are a bit low-rise. By comparison, the GroVia shells hit her at her belly button but would have been too big to fit her snug at 9 months old. While I will continue to use GroBaby shells as long as possible, in hindsight I might have purchased roughly 10 GroBaby shells and 6 GroVia shells for a better investment & for use over the long haul (hope to use them until she is potty trained!).
Tips for overnight protection for Toddlers: While the new GroVia shell sets do not include a booster (these new soakers are supposedly more absorbant/thicker & come with a waterproof backing - the old GroBaby shell sets had no waterproof backing but did include a booster), I still find the boosters useful as extra protection overnight on top of the waterproof-backed soakers inside GroVia shells.
